When we catch up with the gang, Vince (Adrian Grenier) is fresh out of court-ordered rehab for the cocaine bust; Turtle’s (Jerry Ferrara) girlfriend is AWOL and his tequila venture is on the rocks. Eric (Kevin Connolly) is reeling from a broken engagement with Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui). And, Vince is upset with Eric about about an earlier betrayal.
Meanwhile, Ari (Jeremy Piven) and his wife (Perrey Reeves) have separated, making him more manic (and vulnerable? yikes!) than ever. However, no matter what’s in store for the boys, you can count on plenty of comedy from the acerbic uber-agent. Ari continues to be as foul-mouthed and over the top as ever, often taking aim at his former assistant Lloyd (Rex Lee).
For a change, the only character doing well is Drama (Kevin Dillon), who’s absorbed in his new animated comedy, “Johnny’s Bananas,” that co-stars Andrew “Dice” Clay. Naturally, Drama’s good fortune gets tested within the first three episodes.
Despite all the parties, women and other Tinseltown excesses, there’s a theme of friendship and loyalty in “Entourage” as the four pals dream big but remain true to each other. It’s always been “Sex and the City” for guys and this season is shaping up to be no different.
For eight seasons “Entourage” has been the perfect show with which to end the weekend. Written and created by Doug Elin, the series has provided a provocative look inside the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. The show has followed Vince and his three pals from New York City where he went from rising star to A-list actor to fallen star. A darker side of Hollywood seems to be the focus this season, but Vince is pretty crafty when his back is against the wall.
With only eight episodes, this final season is short. So it will be interesting to see how they tie up all the plot strings. Or will they leave viewers wanting more and move the action to the big screen for the long-rumored movie?
“Entourage” is loosely based on the life of Boston’s Mark Wahlberg, who is also the show’s executive producer. Wahlberg also produces the HBO series “In Treatment,” “How to Make It In America” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
