NHL Playoffs 2011, Sabres vs. Flyers Game Two Preview

The Buffalo Sabres are looking to take the first two games on the road over the Philadelphia Flyers after taking Game One on Thursday night, 1-0. The Philadelphia Flyers played a good game against the Sabres, directing 74 shots at the net, and just didn't capitalize on their chances like the Sabres did. Ryan Miller played a good game, and probably stole one along with the defense, making all 35 saves in Game One.

Fast forward to Game Two and the two teams haven't changed much. Chris Pronger is still expected to be out of the lineup against the Sabres which will mean more Danny Syvret for the Flyers. Andrej Sekera may be in the lineup after missing the last few games. He will most likely be replacing Shaone Morrisonn who was injured in Game One by Braydon Coburn. Jordon Leopold is the closest long-time injured Sabre to returning and he probably won't return until Game Six.

The Sabres first and second lines have to be better than they were in Game One. The Sabres' top six forwards combined for 10 of the 25 overall shots in the game and were mostly invisible in the game. If the Sabres are going to have any chance in progressing in this series, the offense is going to have to create more chances and more quality scoring chances.

The Sabres are also 10th out of the 16 playoff teams in total penalty minutes with the 12 they took in the first game. While the Flyers powerplay has struggled this season, if the Sabres want to generate offense in this game they are going to have to stop taking the bonehead penalties as well.

The Philadelphia Flyers are 14-20 in playoff series if they lose Game One and the winner of Game One has gone on to win the series in the eight previous playoff matchups between the Sabres and the Flyers. Game time is 5:00 pm with the gamethread coming at 4:30 pm.
