While summer 2011 may still one day be known as the Summer of the Superhero, as it has been billed, there's already been one formula that's proven this season to be a box office success: the raunchy, pre-wedding ensemble. With the Kristen Wiig-led ladies of "Bridesmaids" taking in over $100 million and the Wolf Pack of "The Hangover: Part II," returning for a massive worldwide pull of $350 million already, wouldn't it make sense to combine the two -- and put an A-list actress as lead?
Yep. And it's already happening.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Reese Witherspoon has signed on to star in the film "Who Invited Her?," a mashup "about a woman who insists on tagging along on a guy's bachelor party weekend." Or, as marketers will probably bill it, "A Bridesmaid Gets A Hangover."
Though the tone and remains to be seen, assuming it's a raunch-fest, it'll mark a new chapter for sweetheart Witherspoon, who most recently starred in the historical romantic drama "Water for Elephants" and another movie whose question is a title, "How Do You Know?"
Having accepted the Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, Witherspoon called out reality stars and actresses who get real life raunchy, saying, "I get it, girls, that it's cool to be a bad girl. But it is possible to make it in Hollywood without doing a reality show. When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed."
